unique
Do you know someone who doesn't think there's such a thing as too organized? Help them lighten up with this odd, odd, wonderful book.

Rich Orwellian Humor
America's increasingly vivid bureaucratic organizational nightmare is Winn's fodder for laugh-out-loud parody and intricate illustrations that would be perfect mixed-tape covers. If you know George Saunders, PLEASE hep him to this one--it may be hard to find, but EVERY PAGE here is a potential Saunders short.

Northern California Festivals & Events 2002 Calendar

Authors: Winn Krafton and Amanda Wray

Beautiful and a great resource!
This calendar is really unique, it includes a remarkable number and a very wide range of events, from food & wine to music, cinema, horticulture, art, fashion and more. I can't imagine an easier way to be be in the know about all these events, particularly early enough that you can actually plan to attend! I like that the phone numbers are included and even more so that you can go the web site for links to events. Great seasonal photos.

Nothern California Festivals & Events 2002 Calendar
What a great idea for a calendar! Each month informs me about the events in my area. These include sports, food and wine, music, film, etc. I can look ahead and make plans for the activities I don't want to miss. I especially appreciate that there are immediate citations for phone numbers in case I want more information. There is even space on each day for my personal comments and reminders. The back page states that other editions are available for southern California, Texas, New York and Illinois .Think I'll start my Christmas gift list.

All Sides of the Issue: Activities for Cooperative Jigsaw Groups
Published in Paperback by Alemany Pr (December, 1989)
Authors: Elizabeth Coelho, Lise Winer, Judy Winn-Bell Olsen, and Olsen
Average review score:

All Sides of the Issue: Activities for Cooperative Groups
An excellent book of well-prepared interactive discussions for the Intermediate/Advanced English as a Second Language classroom. Mss. Coelho, Winer and Winn-Bell Olsen have given us 2 interesting preparatory activities and 5 substantial discussions of increasing difficulty which get the students involved in discussion with EACH OTHER, not just the teacher. Designed to work with a multi-level classroom (upper intermediate and above) each "Jigsaw Activity" can occupy your students over several days, up to 5 hours of class time. My students get very involved with the material, and more important, with each other on these topics. The overall goal of the activities, beyond plenty of vocabulary building, and natural discussion forums, is for the students to become aware of other POINTS OF VIEW, other ways of seeing "Truth". Thank you, ladies, for this well-crafted curriculum. I only wish there were a sequel.

Archie's Acrobats
Published in Hardcover by Random House (Merchandising) (April, 1984)
Author: Chris Winn
Average review score:

Try, try again
Three sets of children in our extended family grew up loving this book, and friends who are professional clowns also raised their son with it.

The lesson, that you can do anything if you work hard enough, goes down with sugar. Archie wants more than anything to be an acrobat. He and his team practice every morning, hard. They do headstands, handstands, one-man hold-me-ups and balancing acts.

Then Aurion J. Pelderfettle, owner of Pelderfettle's World-famous circus, happens into town. The acrobats plan all night for their week-long audition. They make all kinds of fantasic formations--a pyramid and stockbrokers' umbrella, a sea horse and Bozo the Brontosaurus. Pelderfettle is impressed, but not enough. The acrobats make one last try at the Parent's Day Bazaar.

They stumble out onto the hot lawn, Archie dressed like a cherry. A-one, a-two, a-three, they form an ice cream cone--which "melts" from their exhaustion. Pelderfettle hires them on the spot and Archie's acrobats are soon very famous indeed. Kids eat it up. Alyssa A. Lappen
